POKOTABI / Ishii
小料理 石井
Ishii in Higashi-Oizumi serves meticulous Japanese cuisine, from bento-style set lunches featuring seasonal produce and dashi broths to evening kaiseki courses, set in a calm dining room.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Lunch revolves around structured teishoku meals served in a bento format, with choices including the daily special, simmered fish, grilled fish, and sashimi. Each tray arrives with the main dish flanked by a salad, a selection of small side dishes, a clear soup, and a dessert, offering a sense of deliberate preparation even in an everyday midday meal. On certain days, the simmered fish option might feature sizable black mutsu braised to a balanced sweet-savory finish, reflecting a quiet care for letting the fish speak for itself.
Central to the dining experience is the presence of fragrant dashi broths alongside seasonal produce gathered from local Nerima farms and historic Edo-Tokyo heirloom vegetable varieties. On the evening omakase kaiseki course and seasonal menus, dishes progress leisurely from grilled eggplant crowned with sea urchin and dashi jelly to a smooth puree of butternut squash, seasonal sashimi platters, and soft-shelled turtle zosui rice porridge. The aroma of well-crafted clear broth lends an unhurried, grounded rhythm to the table.
The drinks list highlights regional sakes such as Toyohai from Aomori, Kokuryu from Fukui, and Tamagawa from Kyoto, complemented by authentic shochu and beer. With its compact and quiet atmosphere, the room works just as well for a focused solo lunch as it does for a dinner shared with company by advance reservation.
